whats in for audience: lesson to exercise solidworks surface
target feature of tutotrial: solidworks surface
features used in tutorial:
- solidworks sketch
- solidworks surface loft
- solidworks refrence geometry
- solidworks surface extrude
difficulty level: advanced
provided by: SolidWorksAdvisor (SWA)
Please note that this is an advanced tutorial which means I don’t cover basic skills here – like creating a sketch or drawing a line – so if you are a beginner then I suggest you to work on the drone project. That is a solidworks 3d modeling project which I described the designing process from the very beginning to advanced skills.
And the summary of this tutorial:
You will create this headphone cap during the tutorial :
What we use to accomplish this model :
Creating this model is very funny so do it with enthusiasm . before we strat . take another at the model and think about it . if you want to be a good designer you should understand the models . everybody can see the curves and surfaces but a designer should see the relations too . as a designer you should answer these questions to yourself:
What is the most important feature of this product?
Where dose it interact with other parts or products?!
What is the material?!
What is the manufacturing process?!
And all of these questions leads to a primary question:
From where should I start?!
Ok…can you answer these questions about the model?!
I’ll tell you . these are the most important factors to select a starting point:
- Consider simplicity of design
- Consider the future changes of the model
- Consider the symmetry of the model
- Consider the relations between various sections of the model
By considering all of these factors I have selected a starting point which you’ll see . first we need a surface extrdue
We use “lofted surface for the next section and for that we need a new plane and a new sketch so define our new plane:
We use “lofted surface” to connect the new sketch :
If your result is different , just manipulate the green connector points to get the desired shape . what is the next step ?! take another look at the model ,we need another loft so define a new plane :
Make another loft to create the new surface :
Lets take a look at what we’ve done by now :
for the next step, in addition to the sketch we need some guide curves to guide the loft
Make the loft just be careful , this time we have some more settings :
Now just the outer edge is left to do with solidworks extrdue
and the final edge of the part by a revolve
for the wire support, we do the final loft.but first we need a new plane for the sketch
you have done it .
