solidworks advanced loft tutorial
Please note that this is an advanced tutorial which means I don’t cover basic skills here – like creating a sketch or drawing a line – so if you are a beginner then I suggest you to work on the drone project. That is a solidworks 3d modeling project which I described the designing process from the very beginning to advanced skills.
And the summary of this tutorial:
In this article we are going to design below part. This is a turbine runner, Francis type:
First we need this basic shape and we get this by a revolve operation
we need a plane for the loft sketch. then we craete to loft profiles
we need to add two guide curves too
Spline from top view
spline from front view
Spline from top view
spline from front view
Now loft the first slot to the second one with guide curves:
Now we need more blades and we use circular pattern to get them. Click on circular pattern button on features tab and set the parameters as below picture:
Click ok and see the result. Pretty much like a flower isn’t it? Well it is but we are not done yet.
Use the right plane to define a new plane like this:
Sketch two circles on plane2. Note that the circles must be coincident with the endpoints of the blades:
Extrude the sketch:
Click ok and see the result. Now you have designed a turbine runner:
