Please note that this is an advanced tutorial which means I don’t cover basic skills here – like creating a sketch or drawing a line – so if you are a beginner then I suggest you to work on the drone project. That is a solidworks 3d modeling project which I described the designing process from the very beginning to advanced skills.

In this tutorial we will design a gear. There are various types of gears in industries such as spur gear, worm gear, helix gear and helix spiral gear and etc. we will design a helix gear here:

First we need to open a sketch on the top plane:

now we draw two centerlines and the main sketch

now craete the main volume by solidworks revolve

then we filet the sharp edges

We use solidworks sweep to make one tooth. Sweep needs a profile and a path and now we are going to design them. We need a new plane to draw the patch on it.

now we use solidworks sweep then we cut unwanted volume

No sharp edges allowed so fillet the edges of the tooth

we have one tooth so we make other teeth by solidworks pattern
