Photoworks is an add-in feature of solidworks which enable us to work on the appearance of the model and it’s environment to create a realistic or attractive view of our work . It’s really funny and so simple to learn and use. Here we are going to make a simple part and then we will work on it’s appearance with photoworks tools.
Creating the part :
I suppose that you know the basics so create this simple model:
Enable photoworks toolbar:
Tools > add-ins > select the photoworks
The photoworks toolbar now is added to the menu bar .for the beginning, click on photoworks and the from the drop-down menu select “render”.
Now you must see something like this:
This is default settings for the scene and appearance .if your result is different from mine then your default setting is not similar to mine but don’t worry, we are going to change the settings soon. Scene and appearance are the backbone of photoworks. The environment of the model controls by “scene” and the “appearance” controls the look of the model.
So let make our desired view.
Every time that we make change we need to render to see the result but rendering is a time consuming process so make it easier by the following setting. Select option in the photoworks menu:
Ok. Now we can start.
From the photoworks menu select the “appearance” .in the color tab select shiny and set the 220 for the red color:
Click ok and render your work:
Select the scene from photoworks menu. On the manager tab, select the “studio scenes” and the choose “strip lighting”:
Click apply, click close, Render your work again:
Select the scene from photoworks menu again. Click on the room tab. Under the “visibility and appearances” check the visible option for east and north. Under the “size/length” set 200 for length and width:
Click the browse button for east and north and from the fabric category click on cloth. Choose burlap :
Click ok, click apply and then click close and render your work.
Now it’s time to set our background, select the scene from photoworks again and click on the back/foreground tab. From the drop down menu select gradient:
Select these two colors for the top and bottom colors and then click apply and close.
Render your work again:
Seems like the floor is missing so go the room tab from scene again and check the box for the floor too and then render your work again :
We are going to add a light to the view. It’s so funny and so creative. Right click on lights, cameras and scene and select the directional light :
Drag and release the light approximately in the below position:
Click ok and render your work again.
We have done it but as you can see there is a lack of quality in the picture so before the final rendering we should bring back the best setting. From the photoworks menu select option and set the anti-aliasing quality on high :
Now render your work for the last time :
This was just a simple photoworks operation. You can apply many more options and scenes on your own project to get a very realistic picture.
