In this tutorial Iassume that you know the basic of solidworks and you should know how to interactively work with the software. this means that you should know how to open a sketch, define a plane and .... if you don’t know the basics you can visit the solidworks beginner tutorials.

The object of the tutorial is so funny and it’s surface curvature convinced me to select it as a surface tutorial . I have a webcam which it’s head is just like this so the dimensions and the shape are real . I’m seeing it right now on my desk . for me it was a lot fun to model it and I hope it could be so for you .
Lets get to it .
First we are going to create the main body . take a look at it :
We create this shape by surface loft and for the loft we need some sketches (seven sketches to be precise) . here is a preview of all the necessary sketches :
We are going to create all of these sketches. Draw them just like the bellow pictures :
Sketch1 on font plane:
Define new plane for next sketch:
Sketch2 on plane1 :
Define plane2 for next sketch:
Sketch3 on plane2 :
Sketch4 on right plane :
If you want the spline to be fully defined you can do it by defining the points . for me it wasn’t necessary

We have all the necessary sketches for the loft . click on the “lofted surface” on surface toolbar and fill the property manager just like bellow and click ok :
Now we are going to make the speakers . sketch a circle on the right plane just like this :
Exit the sketch and click on the “ extruded surface” . fill the window just like this and click ok:
As you can see in the picture , we need to cut the middle part of the extrude . we use trim for that purpose .
Click on the “trim surface” . fill the window carefully just like the picture .
You must get this result , if not , check the parameters .
Shut off the ending circles on two sides .click on the “planer surface” on surface toolbar and choose the following edges . click ok .
We want to make some groove in front of the speakers . the process is amazing . first we should cut the unwanted area .open a sketch on right plane and draw like this . use convert entities and trim tools .
Now extrude the sketch using “ extruded surface” on surface toolbar :
Trim the two unwanted area in front of the speakers :
Hide the “surface extrude2” to see what we’ve done :
Ok…we have to fill the trimmed area by our desired surface . you can fill it now by “filled surface” on surface toolbars but the result surface would be just like the beginning . we want to create some groove on the surface so we a need a sketch as a constraint to pull the surface back . define a plane for that sketch and draw it :
I know it’s a little weird but all the thing that we need in this sketch is a point:
Now we are ready to make our first grooved surface . click on the “filled surface” and follow the pictures to make it :
In order to choose a boundary ,right click on a segment of it and from the pop-up menu choose “select open loop” .
Click ok to create the first filled surface .
Do just the same for the other side of the part .first create the sketch :
Then fill the surface :
We have created this so far:
Now we are going to cut a hole for speakers . we need to trim the body again. And for that we should have another extruded surface which needs a sketch so draw this sketch on plane3 :
Extrude the sketch:
Trim the speakers holes:
We are almost done just need to thick the body to make a solid part . the “thicken” tool in surface toolbar will do that for us . but before we do this , we should get rid of the unwanted surfaces which would interrupt the thicken process . we delete these surfaces by “delete body” in the features toolbar .
Click the “delete body” in the features toolbar and delete the bellow surfaces :
Its time to make the body a whole integrated surface for thicken process . we use “knit surface” for this purpose . click it on the surface toolbar .
now make it solid . click “thicken” on the surface toolbar and do the final step :
